IMMF 2018
The 8th International Short Film Festival Micro μ, was completed on Sunday, October 14th, 2018. Τhe festival included two days of simultaneous short film screenings at eleven cities.
On Saturday, October 13th, 2018, people from eleven cinema halls, in Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Chania, Heraklion, Xanthi, Patra, Tripolis, Paris, Alexandria and Copenhagen voted for their favourite film, after watching the fifteen short films created by Greek artists.
The following day, the festival wishing to honor the foreign countries of its network, presented short films from France, Spain, Egypt and Denmark. The program of the second day also included a special tribute entitled “Micro μ goes green” which included seven short films by Greek and foreign filmmakers. This section was implemented under the Operational Program "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning" and was co-funded by the European Union (European Social Fund) and by national resources.
This year besides the main audience award for the Festival’s “Favourite Film”, individual prizes were also awarded.During the festival’s award ceremony, the presenter Katerina Moutsatsou, from the Michael Cacoyannis Foundation Hall, presented live the results of each city’s "Favorite Film”, as voted by its audience, as well as the "Official Favourite Film” of the Festival. After the count of votes, the films were ranked as follows:
Favorite film for the IMMF 2018 was George Aggelopoulos'“Goldfish”. The film deals with the story of young Stratis, who is different from other boys his age, and this is of great concern to his father. The audience, with its vote, showed how this particular social issue, that of a sexual orientation, is an important matter of our time.
2nd Favorite Film: "The Ticket" by Haris Stathopoulos
3rd favorite Film: "The Backpack" by Michalis Mathioudakis
4th Favorite Film: "Little is the World" by Lefteris Giannakoudakis
5th Favorite Film: "The Eye" by Stergios Dinopoulos
The prizes awarded to the first two directors were of total value of 2,500€, kindly sponsored by the companies RGBStudios, BLK and VIDEOPRESS, and were related to postproduction services or rental equipment.
The individual Awards of the Organizing Committee were as follows:
● Best director: Manolis Mavris for the film "Maneki Neko"
● Best Screenplay: Giorgos Angelopoulos for the film "Goldfish"
● Best Performance by an actor in a leading role: Makis Papadimitriou for "Heimlich"
● Best performance by an actress in a leading role: Lena Kitsopoulou for "Fake News"
AWARDS
The filmmaker of the winner film will earn the right for free rental rights for equipment and post production services, worth 1500 € from RGB studios and DCP mastering services, worth 500 € from VIDEOPRESS S.A. , for his/her next production .

SYNOPSIS
Newstria is a utopian land. A large cruise ship sails off looking for it... The film is set in the 30’s, when the cruise ship ‘Chimera’ sails off in search of Newstria. Businessmen, bourgeois, artists, musicians, sailors, workers, chefs and the captain with his daughter are all traveling on board in search of a better tomorrow. Gradually though, things start going wrong. Someone spots a water ingress at the cargo hold. Sheet metals are breaking at the engine room. The ship begins to tilt. The captain calmly watches from the bridge deck. Nobody is alarmed as they all believe that when they reach Newstria they will be saved. Except the ship never reaches Newstria. It sinks… leaving only one survivor behind.

SYNOPSIS
The unexpected encounter of two strangers and their agreement while waiting for a cab to share the cost of the ride, becomes the motive for the anatomy of a relationship. From the moment they enter the taxi, the driver reveals that they are actually familiar and have a common past, leading the couple to the landscapes of memory. MICRO μ 8 : THE PRELIMINARY PHASE
The participations for the 8th Micro μ Festival are closed! This year, both the quality and quantity of the received films, seem to promise a magical experience for the audience on Saturday, October 13, 2018. Thank you all for having trusted your work to us. The 15 films that will be screened in this year’s festival will soon be announced.
The Preliminary Committee for the 8th MICRO μ FESTIVAL consists of:
• Dimitris Antoniades:Actor. He was born in Athens in 1978. He started his career in experimental theatre at age 15, when he became member of EDERED and Theatrales des Jeunes en Europe,taking part in several performances in Greece and abroad. He studied Performing Arts at University College Suffolk in England and Theodosiades Drama School in Athens. During the last 20 years he has taken part in more than 40 theatrical productions, of the Theatre of Freedom , the National Theatre, Municipal and Regional Theatres and National and International Festivals. He is the President of the Hellenic Actors Union.
• Daphne Schmon: Director. Daphne is an award-winning Greek-American director. She founded Seek Films in 2009 and her first feature documentary CHILDREN OF THE WIND won eight international awards in the festival circuit, including "Best documentary" and "Best Emerging Filmmaker" at X-Dance. She has since led teams in 9 countries, including TV Special DOWN TO EARTH which aired on CNN Latin America. Her first narrative short ALL OF ME was made with an all-female crew and played at over 25 international film festivals. The film received 4 awards and 6 nominations including Micro μ International Festival, where it was recognized as one of the top 5 films of 2017. Her upcoming feature film 'MATI' was selected as one of 15 films to be presented at 'Breaking Through The Lens' in Cannes. Daphne is currently based in London and an active member of Cinesisters and WFTV UK.
• George Souxes : Actor / Director. He was born in Athens and his presence in theater, cinema and television is constant since 1982.Until now, he has taken part in more than 31 films, 50 television shows, teaches drama, improvisation, directs and writes theater plays . Films he stared participated in 2nd and 3rd Micro μ Festival.He is an active member of Hellenic Actors Union since 1989.
• Simos Kiparissopoulos:Actor and Founder of the Micro μ Festival. He was born in Thessaloniki in March 1975. After attending the School of Technological Applications of the educational institute of Piraeus, he dealt with art. In 2005 he graduated from the Drama School of G. Theodossiades in Athens and he began practicing as an actor in theater, television and cinema. At the same time, since 2007, he has been working on the production and organization of artistic events and plays in Athens. Since 2011 he has been the manager of KATOPRON SA, through which he created the Micro μ short film festival, which is held for the last seven years in Greece and abroad. He is a member of the Hellenic Actors' Association and quite active in the field despite his continuοus involvement in the festival.
